A romantic destination wedding in Assisi: the spiritual heart of Umbria.
Perched on the slopes of the Subasio Mountain, Assisi is one of the most famous and renowned cities of the Umbria region, the only central Italian region that does not give onto the sea. Very important from a spiritual and religious point of view, it was the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in the town in 1208, and St. Clare (Chiara d'Offreducci), the founder of the Poor Sisters, which later became the Order of Poor Clares after her death. The 19th-century Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows was also born in Assisi.
Charming history and a breathtaking natural setting
Art and wine, nature and relaxation: Assisi is the perfect choice for those who love nature and outdoors activities but would also like to plunge into history and time. In Assisi, there is something to suit everybody’s fancy!
A late medieval wedding location: Assisi is ideal either for civil and religious weddings in Umbria
The town is dominated by two medieval castles. The larger, called Rocca Maggiore, is a massive presence that was meant to intimidate the people of the town: it was built by Cardinal Albornoz (1367) and enlarged by Popes Pius II and Paul III. The smaller of the two was built much earlier, in the Roman era. However, not all of it stands, and only a small portion and three towers are open to the public.
Get married in a World Heritage site
